Lesson 6 of 88 min

Hallucinations and Fact-Checking

Learning goal: Recognize hallucinations and verify claims against real sources.

Lesson

A hallucination is unsupported or false output presented plausibly. Models do not automatically verify names, quotations, dates or statistics. Separate fact from interpretation, request the original source, open it, confirm exact support, check the date and use independent evidence when consequences matter. A real link may still not support a claim.

Example

Verify a launch through the official announcement and independent reporting.

Common mistake

Asking the same model “Are you sure?”

Exercise

Verify three sourced claims for existence, freshness and direct support.

Commands to try

Curated workflow shortcuts from the Academy library — not necessarily native Claude commands.
